Opening of Forthquarter Park postponed

The official opening of Edinburgh’s largest and newest park on Tuesday 22nd April has been postponed after an inspection raised concerns about the quality of water currently running through the park.

The 20 acre park includes a number of water features, including a sustainable urban drainage system or SUDS scheme and the Granton burn which flows through the site. The inspection confirmed that while the SUDS water was unaffected, water flowing from the burn did not meet water quality standards.

National Grid Property spokesperson, Mark Rylance, said: “We are disappointed to have to postpone the opening event, but as always health and safety is our top priority. We understand that people are really looking forward to making the most of the opportunities the new park offers. The current issues originate off site and are not linked to the development at Granton so we are working with Scottish Water to allow the park to open as soon as possible.”
