Round two for The Forthquarter Super League.

The Forthquarter Super League will kick off its 2nd season this Sunday, after a very successful first leg, that saw over 100 players taking part.

The League, which is based on the highly successful Monday Night Super League, received funding from National Grid, owners of The Forthquarter development in Granton, to set up a team for younger players aged 12-15 years.

Head coach Kenny Cameron also runs a league for 16-25 year olds under the Active Futures Scheme.

Both initiatives are organised by several local youth organisations including Spartans Community Football Academy, Drylaw/Fet-Lor, Muirhouse Youth Development Group, Pilton Youth & Children's Project and Granton Youth Centre.

Kenny Cameron comments on its success, ‘It’s great to see the league doing well from the outset. This is an excellent way to get them motivated, off the streets and exercising’.

National Grid spokesperson, Nicola Slater said, ‘We are delighted to see our support in action. The success of The Forthquarter Super League has been great for all involved’.

The teams have received endorsement from the local police who have commented on the decrease in youth related calls since the start of the league.

The initiative has also received support from MP Malcolm Chisholm, who visited the Sunday night schemes, The Forthquarter Super League and Active Futures, to see the players in action.

Anyone interested in taking part can come along this Sunday, 6-7pm at Spartan Community Football Academy for the start of the 2nd season, or contact Kenny Cameron at KennyCameron@spartanscfa.com or 0131 552 7854 for more information.
