North Edinburgh first to sample new Waterfront Promenade.
The first 1km section of the Edinburgh Waterfront Promenade, stretching from Granton to Silverknowes, will be officially opened this afternoon.
The new walkway, once complete, will cover 17km from Joppa to Cramond, linking the established and emerging communities in North Edinburgh’s waterfront regeneration area.
National Grid’s Forthquarter development is one of the newest communities at the waterfront. A short walk from the promenade, it is an ideal location to explore the vibrant coastline from Silverknowes to Cramond.
A spokesperson for National Grid said: ”This is an excellent infrastructure to link together new and old neighbourhoods and provides additional recreational facilities for residents and visitors.
“With established transport links to the city centre, international airport, European ferry terminal and the national motorway network, The Forthquarter offers living, working and recreation opportunities at the heart of one of Europe’s most exciting waterfront regeneration projects.
“We are fully supportive of the development, and welcome the value it will add to the North Edinburgh area and beyond”.
The Promenade will be open to all including bikes, buggies and budding nature watchers, and will have educational ‘information nodes’ dotted along the route to inform and entertain visitors.
The opening ceremony will take place at 1pm at Gypsy Brae and will be attended by various community representatives, as well as MSP Alasdair Morgan and Councillor Tom Buchanan.
